## What does EdgeBits do?

EdgeBits sits between your factory floor and your business systems. It reads live data from machines (PLCs, meters, drives, sensors), processes and routes it — locally, without cloud dependence — and pushes structured, correlated data to wherever it needs to go: SAP, Power BI, a central dashboard, another plant, a historian.

**Three independent products:**

- **Edge Node** — runs on a Raspberry Pi or industrial PC at the plant. Connects to equipment, runs pipelines, fires alerts.
- **Edge Manager** — runs centrally (self-hosted or cloud VM). Manages a fleet of Edge Nodes: ISA-95 topology, remote pipeline deployment, multi-site health.
- **Edge Analytics** — time-series data plane. OEE dashboards, tag explorer, reports. Think historian-lite.

---

## Who is it for?

**Primary buyer:** Plant manager or OT/IT lead at a North India manufacturer — auto components, textiles, pharma, steel, FMCG. Company size roughly ₹50Cr–₹500Cr. They have a working factory. They don't have a data layer above it.

**Secondary buyer:** IT/OT manager at a multi-site manufacturing group who is tired of each plant being a data island.

**Not for:** Greenfield smart factories buying a full MES/SCADA stack. Those have bigger budgets and different procurement paths.

---

## What problems does it solve?

Three real problems, in order of frequency in the target market:

**1. Production data never reaches SAP or BI.**
Someone types shift output into SAP at the end of the day — if at all. Actual machine cycles, downtime, energy consumption, scrap counts stay on the shop floor. EdgeBits closes that loop automatically.

**2. Each plant is a data island.**
Three plants, three standalone SCADA or Ignition gateways, no common view. Plant manager in Gurgaon can't see what's happening in Manesar without WhatsApp. Edge Manager gives a single fleet view with ISA-95 hierarchy.

**3. IT blocks every cloud project at the plant network boundary.**
Most Indian plant IT won't open inbound firewall ports for a cloud system. Edge Sync calls outbound only — plant IT approves it in one meeting instead of three months.

---

## Key benefits / outcomes

- **Production data in SAP without manual entry.** One connector, one pipeline, auto-push to PP/QM/PM. For SAP customers this is worth ₹20–50L/year in SI project savings alone.
- **Energy monitoring without new hardware.** Most plants already have meters with RS-485. Modbus connector reads them. PAT compliance reports generated without a separate energy management system.
- **Deployed in a day.** One Pi, one `docker compose up`, one browser. Not a 6-month SI engagement.
- **Multi-site OEE from one screen.** Not per-plant dashboards — cross-site comparison, shift-over-shift, line-over-line.
- **No rip-and-replace.** Works alongside Ignition, existing SCADA, existing PLCs. Reads from OPC-UA, Modbus, REST. Adding EdgeBits doesn't change what operators see.

---

## Specific use cases worth highlighting

- **Energy monitoring + PAT compliance** — Modbus reads meters, Edge Analytics aggregates consumption by shift, area, line. Mandatory for ₹500Cr+ companies under India's PAT scheme.
- **SAP production order correlation** — Machine cycle count × production order → actual vs planned output pushed to SAP PP. Currently done by a person with a clipboard.
- **Multi-site fleet management** — 5 plants, deploy a new pipeline from Edge Manager to all nodes simultaneously. Currently requires physical access or VPN + individual SSH.
- **DMZ egress for cloud-blocked plants** — Edge Node pushes outbound to Azure IoT Hub or AWS IoT Core. IT never opens an inbound port.
- **Ignition + EdgeBits** — Ignition handles SCADA/HMI; EdgeBits subscribes to its Sparkplug B output and routes to SAP, BI, and other enterprise systems. Composable, not competitive.

## What's different vs everyone else?

**vs Ignition / Inductive Automation:** Ignition is the OT layer (machine connectivity, HMI, SCADA). EdgeBits is the IT layer above it. They compose. Ignition costs ₹15–20L per site before a dashboard is live, requires SI, needs inbound firewall ports. Edge Node is under ₹15K/month per node — self-service, outbound-only.

**vs Azure IoT Hub / AWS IoT Greengrass:** Cloud-native IIoT platforms assume your plant IT will cooperate and your OT team is comfortable with cloud-first. Most Indian plants aren't there. EdgeBits runs fully on-premise with optional cloud egress — the plant owns the data.

**vs AVEVA / OSIsoft PI:** ₹2–5Cr historian for large enterprises. Edge Analytics covers 90% of the reporting that most mid-size manufacturers actually need, at a fraction of the cost.

**vs custom SI projects:** A typical SAP-to-shop-floor integration in India is ₹25–50L and takes 6–9 months. EdgeBits is self-service configuration, not a project. The same connector that talks Modbus TCP also handles RTU, OPC-UA, REST — operators configure it in a UI, not in code.

## Pricing model

| Product | Unit | Model |
|---------|------|-------|
| Edge Node | Per node | Under ₹15K/month |
| Edge Manager | Per site / plant | Separate license |
| Edge Analytics | Per site / plant | Separate license |

---

**The honest one-line difference:** Every competitor either requires enterprise budget and SI or requires cloud trust from plant IT. EdgeBits is the only option that's affordable, self-deployable, on-premise-first, and protocol-complete for Indian factory floors today.
